Dr. Jon Bassett- Director of Choral Studies

Dr. Jon Bassett has been the Director of Choral Activities at Florida College since 2001 and was tenured in 2006. Dr. Bassett also teaches voice and strings at Florida College, and is the Director of the String Ensemble. He was presented the Top Rated Activities Professor award for 2015-2016; an award based on student reviews. 

Dr. Bassett earned his undergraduate and graduate degree in Music Education from Arkasas State, where he studied voice with David Niederbrach and choral conducting with Alfred Skoog. While in school he played in the Northeast Arkansas Symphony Orhcestra. He immediately began working, and taught secondary music in Arkansas for the next six years. While working full time at Florida College, Dr. Bassett began work on a Ph.D in Music Education at the University of South Florida, earning the terminal degreen in 2010. .

Each year the Florida College Chorus tours the United States for 10 days and has performed numerous concerts in more than 20 states under Dr. Bassett’s direction. Additionally, the chorus engages in collaborative performances with other collegiate ensembles, and is a recurring participant in the bi-annual Christian College Chorus Festival.

In 2017 the Florida College Chorus gave 9 performances in Salzburg and Linz, Austria and participated in the Anton Bruckner Choral Competition and Festival. The chorus placed 1st in the concert choir competition and 3rd in the sacred choir competition, as well as being selected as one of 4 choirs competing for the grand prize. The chorus has also performed for several regional organizations both large and small, and Dr. Bassett has facilitated and conducted several concerts featuring major choral works with full orchestra and chorus on the Florida College campus.
